Governor Signs Worker's Comp Bill SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2002) -- Governor Gray Davis Friday signed into law AB 2931, which allows the racing industry to redirect a portion of existing statutory distributions to defray the cost of worker's compensation coverage for stable employees and jockeys. Assemblyman Jerome Horton said he hopes his bill "will bring an end to the workers' compensation dilemma, which is currently hurting the economics of California's racing industry." The California Horse Racing Board, anticipating the Governor's action, Wednesday approved increasing the amount of money for the vanning and stabling fund that will be used to offset workers' comp costs. No increase in takeout was necessary.
