Legislative Analysis
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Mar. 20, 2003) -- There has been little or no activity
on legislation in either the Senate or the Assembly. In the Assembly,
Speaker Wesson has postponed all policy committee hearings until the last
week in March in the hope that the members will concentrate on solving the
budget problem, which many believe cannot be solved.
No horseracing bills have been set for
hearing, however a number of other bills of interest to the CTBA are being
scheduled and the CTBA staff and the legislative committee is reviewing
the bills and will provide input as appropriate.
The CTBA website legislative page
contains a summary of the bills that the association is monitoring and it
is updated regularly.
Members interested in a specific bill can access any bill on this page and
can use the link to view the actual language in the bill.
A legislative reception has been
scheduled for April 1 in Sacramento, hosted by the TOC, CTBA, CTT, CARF,
and the racetracks. This event will enable industry representatives to
meet new and returning legislators in an informal setting and to discuss
the racing industry's concerns.
